The main advantage of a manned mission is that there are one or more people at the location to make decisions and perform functions that were not anticipated or could not be automated.
The main advantage of unmanned missions is, very simply, cost. It costs a lot more to build and orbit a machine designed to carry people than for a robot ship. Also, there is the risk to any persons on board. Also, for long-duration missions, (many months or years), nobody wants to go on a mission from which they will never return - no astronaut is going to live for more than 50-60 years in space. (Remember, they were not children when they lifted off - they were highly trained for several years, and most have college degrees.)
