he spent 40% of the remaining salary for travelling expense that means 60% remaining it is 3600.
if
x \times (60 \div 100) = 3600 \\
60x \div 100 = 3600
60x = 3600 \times 100
x = 360000 \div 60 = 6000
so the salary after meeting food expense=6000
remaining balance=3600
so amount spent on travelling=6000-3600=2400

Let the total earning of Larry = $ X
Expenditure on Food = 70 % of $ X
= 70 × X / 100 = 7X / 10
Remaining earning = X - 7X/10 = 3X / 10
Expenditure on Travel = 40 % of 3X/10
= (40 / 100) × (3X / 10 )
= 120X / 1000 = 12X / 100
According to the given condition
(7X / 10) + (12X / 100) + 3600 = X
(7X × 10 / 10 × 10) + (12X / 100) + 3600 = X
(70X / 100) + (12X / 100 ) + 3600 = X
( 82X / 100 ) + 3600 = X
Transposing (82X / 100) to right.
3600 = X - (82X/100)
3600 = (100X - 82X) / 100
3600 = 18X / 100
transposing 100 to left
3600 × 100 = 18X
Transposing 18 to left
360000/18 = X
X = $ 20000
Larry's monthly earning = $ 20,000
Travelling expenses = 40% of 3X/ 10 = (40/100) * (3×20000 / 10)
= (40 × 60000 / 1000)
= $ 2400
