x+y=25 and x+2y=39

Step-by-step explanation:

let the number of horses hired be x

let the number of elephants hired be y

total friends were 25 hence x+y=25

then for each horse it costs 50 and for each elephant it costs 100

so,

50x+100y=1950

50(x+2y)=1950

x+2y=39

Given: Last year we visited Jodhpur with a group of 25 friends. When we went to Mehrangarh fort we found the following fare for the ride: Some people choose to ride on a horse and the rest choose to ride on elephants. On the first day, we rode in normal hours and we paid Rs 1950 for the ride.

To find:  Let x be the number of horses hired and y be the number of elephants hired.

Solution:

Let the number of horses hired be x and let the number of elephants hired be y.

Total friends = x+y= 25

The horse costs= 50 and the elephant costs= 100

The equation will be 50x+100y=1950

= x+2y=39
