Lateral magnification is extent to which the image is magnified or reduced with respect to the object. It is some constant factor. This constant factor can be calculated by taking the ratio of (height of image) / (height of object) For mirrors it can be calculated as (image distance) /(object distance) For lens it is same just with a minus sign. Hope it helps
