Laterite soil is found in many parts of India as in southern parts of Maharashtra, parts of Kerala, west Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Meghalaya. This soil is not capable of retaining moisture and is acidic in nature. Due to leaching, it is poor in lime and silica but, it is rich in iron and aluminium. crops are cultivated in this soil with the use of manure. cashew nuts, coffee, rubber, and tapioca are grown in the laterite soil. sometimes the colour of the soil is red and sometimes the colour of the soil is yellow. The word laterite is derived from I Latin word that means brick. the quality of laterite soil is not good in India and it can only be put to use after adding manure and fertilisers to it. This soil is mixed with iron oxides. this soil is formed in wet and hot tropical areas and it is enriched with iron and aluminium.
