Magnetic susceptibility measurements for RCrO4(RNd, Sm and Eu) chromates reveal the existence of antiferromagnetic ordering in which both sublattices Cr5+ and R3+ are involved. The estimated Néel temperature in the case of SmCrO4is 18.7 K, while in the case of NdCrO4 it appears to be lower than 4.2 K. These results are quite different from those reported for the remaining isostructural zircon-type members of the RCrO4(RGdLu and Y) family for which the existence of ferromagnetic interactions have been established.
