The latitude and longitude extent of india is almost the same degree i.e. 30 degree. But the north south distance in kilometres is 3214 and the east west distance is the 2933 km. This is because of the nature of the lines....

Though the latitudinal and the longitudinal extent of India is 30 degrees, the north-south extent is greater than the east-west extent. This is because of the following reasons.

1.        As one moves from southwards to northwards the distances between the two latitude lines decreases from the equator to the poles.

2.        India isn’t situated in the editorial region so,  the angular extent i.e. 30 degrees, will not produce same linear extent.
