Answer: In the story we see how peggy and maddie try to have fun by making of Wanda, a tight lipped polish girl, who always said that she had a hundred dresses. The fact that she wore always a faded blue dress which was shabby but clean, contradicted her statement. This was considered as extremely ridiculous by the girls at her school.  The girls would always ask her with utter courteousness like they were talking to a teacher, however it was another way of poking fun at her. Laughing at other may have the unintended effect of feeling small, self- depreciating , anxiety and much more. This may make a person feel small and decrease their confidence. On the other hand laughing with other people makes them happy, makes people feel appreciated and valued. Hence instead of poking fun at people we should befriend them regardless of any prejudices or stereotypes set by the society.
