Step-by-step explanation:

1 1/4=1 h 15min

3 hours = 12/4

2 hours= 8/4

45 min = 3/4

5+12+8+3.  by 4

=28/4

Given:

Lauren practiced playing the piano 1(1/4)  hours in the morning, 3 hours in the afternoon and 2 hours and 45 minutes in the evening

To Find:

For what fraction of the day did she  practice?

Solution:

Fraction is a concept in which some parts of a whole thing is expressed in fraction form or division form if there are 150 students and 98 are girls then in the fraction form it can be expressed as \frac{98}{150}. Similarly,

The total number of hours in a day is 24 hours.

In the morning, 1(1/4) hours which will be 5/4 hours in the morning, for the afternoon it is 3 hours and for the evening it is 2 hours and 45 minutes which can be expressed as

=(2+45/60)

=2+3/4

=11/4hours

So, the total no of hours Lauren practised will be

Total=\frac{5}{4}+3+\frac{11}{4}  \\=\frac{5+12+11}{4} \\=\frac{28}{4}\\=7 hours

Now we can express it in fraction form,

Fraction=\frac{7}{24}

Hence, Lauren worked for 7/24th of a day.
