A progressive sound wave is produced in the surrounding areas having a frequency equal to that of the stationary wave in a substance or a body . According to the law of vibration of a stretched string the fundamental frequency is inversely proportionate to the square root of the mass per unit length .

⇒ The frequency is inversely proportional to the radius .

⇒ The frequency is inversely proportional to the density of the string.


The frequency can be increased by increasing tension , decreasing radius and density.


The frequency can be decreased by decreasing tension , increasing radius and density.
