Hi !

Well, it was always a heated debate on the basis of what light was made up of, particularly on understanding the fundamental behaviour of propogation of light through space.

Be it it's particle or wave characteristic behaviour.

Already, a theory of light being particle like, given by the great and renowned Isaac Newton on basis of Corpuscular theory had made everyone believe over his ideas towards light.

It was only after the discovery of some more properties of light and their sensitive experiments that there had been a flaw in Newton's theory of light and then came in a genius scientist, Christian Huygens who almost challenged the theory of behaviour of light with his famous paper that he published giving a sensible proof of describing reflection and refraction through his idea of secondary wavelets and multiple sources also interfering in their propogation and hence displaying wave characteristics.

Hope this helps you !
