When lead monoxide (PbO) is heated with coke then it leads to the formation of lead metal (Pb) and carbon dioxide (CO).

• 2PbO+c -----> 2Pb+CO2

: This is a redox reaction in which the lead gets reduced and the carbon gets oxidized.

: For the extraction of lead out of lead oxide (PbO) , coke is added because it acts as carbon in this reaction.

: The study of this reaction states that the lead oxide (PbO) contains the cation Pb+2, and the oxide anion O-2
