There was a time when elephant had no trunk. He had only a bulgy nose, There was a monkey elephant named Golu. He was full of questions.
Golu asks his tall aunt, the ostrich why she does not ever fly like other birds.
Golu’s huge uncle, the hippopotamus, had red eyes. So he asked why his eyes are always red. Then he asked his tall uncle, the giraffe, what makes your skin so spotty.
He asked his hairy uncle, the baboon, why do melons taste like melons. His relatives did not answer his questions because the questions were too difficult.
One day he asked maina bird what does the crocodile have for dinner. The mynah bird advised Golu to go to the Limpopo river.On the way he met a paython and helped him to coil on the branch.
Golu went to the Limpopo river to find out what the crocodile had for dinner. The crocodile lay on the bank of the Limpopo river. Golu thought it was a log of wood. The crocodile shed tears to show that it was a real crocodile.
The crocodile said, “Come here, little one, and I’ll whisper the answer to you”. He wanted to eat Golu. When Golu came near him. He pulled his nose. Golu also pulled his nose so that that it can leave.
The python helped Golu on the bank of the river and Golu got his nose as 5 feet long trunk. Now the elephant can do things with his trunk are- pluck large bundle of grass, carry heavy things, to hit the insects (like fly), slap (pour) water or mud on its head.
