Given:

Add or subtract the given fractions.

Solution:

a) \: 2  \dfrac{4}{18}  +  \dfrac{6}{18}

changing mixed fraction into improper fraction => 18x2+4 = 40/18

 =  >  \dfrac{40}{18}  +  \dfrac{6}{18}

when denominators are same, add the numerators directly.

 =  >  \dfrac{46}{18}  =  \dfrac{23}{9}

b) \: 8  \dfrac{6}{9}  -  \dfrac{3}{9}

changing mixed fraction into improper fraction => 9x8+6=78/9

 =  >  \dfrac{78}{9}  -  \dfrac{3}{9}

when denominators are same, subtract the numerators directly.

 =  >  \dfrac{75}{9} = \dfrac{25}{3}

c) \:  \dfrac{7}{8}  -  \dfrac{3}{8}

when denominators are same, subtract the numerators directly.

 =  >  \dfrac{4}{8}  =  \dfrac{1}{2}

d) \: 10 \dfrac{4}{10}  - 5 \dfrac{5}{10}

changing mixed fraction into improper fraction => 10x10+4 = 104/10

changing mixed fraction into improper fraction => 10x5+5=55/10

 =  >  \dfrac{104}{10}  -  \dfrac{55}{10} = \dfrac{11}{2}

when denominators are same, subtract the numerators directly.

 =  >  \dfrac{49}{10} =  \dfrac{7}{5}
