Solution :-

Scores ------------- F ------------ CF

2 - 5 ----------------1 --------------- 1

5 - 8 ----------------1 --------------- 2

8 - 11 ----------------2 --------------- 4

11 - 14 ---------------4 --------------- 8

14 - 17 -------------- 8 --------------- 16

17 - 20 --------------7 --------------- 23

20 - 23 -------------9 --------------- 32

23 - 26 -------------10 ---------------42

26 - 29 -------------22 --------------64

29 - 32 -------------13 ---------------77

32 - 35 --------------9 ---------------86

35 - 38 --------------7 ---------------93

38 - 41 -------------- 6--------------- 99

so,

→ N = 99 .

then,

→ 3rd quartile = (3 * 99)/4 = 74.25 th value .

CF greater than 74.25 is 77 which lies in 29 - 32 class , which is our quartile class .

so,

 • Lower limit of quartile class = 29 .
 • Class size = 3 .
 • CF = 64 (before quartile class.)
 • Frequency of quartile class = 13 .

then,

→ Q3 = 29 + [(74.25 - 64)/13] * 3

→ Q3 = 29 + (10.25 * 3)/13

→ Q3 = 29 + 2.37

→ Q3 = 31.37

now,

→ 72th percentile = (72 * 99/100) th observation = 71.28 . so, again quartile class is 29 - 32.

then,

→ P(72) = 29 + [(71.28 - 64)/13] * 3

→ P(72) = 29 + (7.28 * 3)/13

→ P(72) = 29 + 1.68

→ P(72) = 30.68

now,

→ 8th decile = (8 * 99)/10 th observation = 79.2 . so, our decile class will be 32 - 35 . (79.2 < 86)

then,

→ D(8) = 32 + [79.2 - 77)/9] * 3

→ D(8) = 32 + (2.2/3)

→ D(8) = 32.73 .

Solution:

Answer 1:

Refer to the attachment for the complete table.

Answer 2:

Finding 3rd Quartile:

(3x99)/4 = 74.25

Q_{3} = 29.5+( \dfrac{74.25-64}{13}) 3

=> 29.5 + 2.36 = 31.86

Finding 72nd Percentile:

(72x99)/100 = 71.28

P_{72} = 29.5+( \dfrac{71.28-64}{13}) 3

=> 29.5 + 1.68 =31.18

Finding 8th Decile:

(8x99)/10 = 79.2

D_{8} = 32.5+( \dfrac{72.9-77}{9}) 3

=> 32.5 + 0.73 = 33.23

Answer 3:

Percentile Rank of Dennis: He scored 32 (given in the question)

PR = (\dfrac{100}{N}) [(\dfrac{(P-LB)fp}{i} +cfp]

=> PR = (\dfrac{100}{99}) [(\dfrac{(32-29.5)13}{3} +64]

=> PR = 1.01 (10.83 + 64)

=> PR = 75.58 \% = 76 \%

Percentile Rank of Christine: He scored 23 (given in the question)

PR = (\dfrac{100}{N}) [(\dfrac{(P-LB)fp}{i} +cfp]

=> PR = (\dfrac{100}{99}) [(\dfrac{(23-20.5)9}{3} +23]

=> PR = 1.01 (7.5 + 23)

=> PR = 30.80 \% = 31\%

Answer 4:

It is given in the question that a student's score should be in the top 10% of all scores. It means they must score at least 90% and above in order to consider for a scholarship. Since Both Dennis and Christine have scored less than 90%, they are not qualified for a scholarship.
