Given: During the first year they will  plant 100 trees. Each succeeding year, they will plant 50 more trees than they  planted the year before.

We have to find,

1. How many trees will they plant during the fifth year?

2. How many trees will they have planted by the end of the tenth year?

Here, We know that in the first year they planted 100 trees.

So, in the second year, they planted 100+50=150

in the third year, they planted 150+50=200

in the four years, they planted 200+50=250

in the five-years, they planted 250+50=300

in the six years, they planted 300+50=350

in the seven years, they planted 350+50=400

in the eight years, they planted 400+50=450

in the nine years, they planted 450+50=500

in the ten years, they planted 500+50=550

So, 1. in the fifth year they planted 300 trees.

2. at the end of the tenth year they planted 550 trees.
