The steps in sexual reproduction in animal and plants

Explanation:

A. Animal sexual reproduction

      Sperm Cell + Egg Cell = Zygote ⇒ Embryo ⇒ Fetus

During sexual reproduction in animals, the process of fusion of sperm with egg (ovum) i.e., male and female gametes is called fertilization. The fertilized egg is called the zygote.  Zygote starts to divide into many cells and develops into an embryo.

Embryo moves into the uterus and gets attached to its walls. This process is referred to as implantation, and the implanted embryo eventually develops into a fetus.

B. Plant sexual reproduction

       Ovum + Pollen = Zygote -> Embryo -> Fruit/seed

The reproductive parts of plants are flowers. During sexual reproduction in plants, when pollen is transferred from the anther to the stigma of a flower through carriers such as insects it is called pollination.

A zygote is formed as a result of the fusion of gametes which later develops into the embryo. Fruits and seeds are formed post-fertilization. Ripened ovary goes on to become a fruit. Ovules give rise to seeds which contain the embryo in a protective covering.
