Given :   Numbers

1.   16 , 4 , 9

2.   64 , 16 , 36

To Find : GCF

Solution:

GCF = Greatest common factor  also called HCF ( Highest common factor )

HCF Highest common factor of given numbers is the largest factors which divides all the given numbers perfectly.

HCF = product of common factors of least power

1.   16 , 4 , 9

          4 )   16    (  4

                 16

               ___

                 0

GCF ( 16 , 4) = 4

         4  ) 9    (  2

               8

             ____

                 1     )  4   (  4

                          4

                        ____

                           0

GCF ( GCF(16 , 4)  , 9 ) = 1

Hence GCF ( 16 , 4 , 9 )  = 1

               64      16,    36

       2      32       8       18

       2      16        4        9

       HCF = 2 * 2 = 4

         16 )   64  (  4

                 64

               ____

                  0

GCF ( 16 , 64) = 16

           16  )  36  (  2

                   32

              _______

                    4  )  16   (  4

                           16

                        _____

                           0

GCF = 4

Hence GCF ( 16 , 64 , 36 ) = 4
