Question :-

Leaves are modified into spines in

____________________

Answer :-

Leaves are modified into spines in the Xerophytic Plants. These plants are found in the areas of high temperature with less moisture in air. These plants have thick tap root that goes deep into the ground and takes its water (underground water) from there. The leaves of such plants are modified into spines to decrease the level and quantity of transpiration taking place from these Xerophytic Plants. Since the more is the temperature, the more transpiration takes place in the plant, resulting in the plant gets it's stored watered emptied. This leads to death of the plant. The spine shaped leaves relatively decrease the transpiration level of the plant, making it's stored water to remain in the plant. These plants are found mostly in harsh and hot climate like of a desert.

Example of Xerophytic Plants :- Cactus, Acacia, Pineapple, etc.
