Left Wing insurgents are known by the names, Maoists or Naxals in India. Though insurgency shows a downward trend, it is still a menace in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal – collectively known as the Red Corridor.

Illiteracy and poverty are two main reasons for this. The Government of India has taken several bold steps in eradicating illiteracy and poverty, mainly through literacy and employment generation programmes in these areas. Security is also a critical factor, providing safety and security to the remote villages in these areas.

It is evident that lwe decline started after 2010. So, instead of saying “Modi Government approached it in a better way”, it is prudent to use the phrase “Successive dispensations initiated many types of measures”.

Governance vacuum and lack of employment opportunities promote the youth to join the lwe movement.

Earlier, the schemes that were meant for lwe affected places were either fragmented or did not have considerable involvement of the local administration.

They did not allow for personalization at the grassroots level. However, there has been a shift in approach in recent years due to which things have worked nicely.
