legs(sides other than hypotenuse) of a right triangle are lengths 16cm and 8cm. Find the length of the side of the largest square that can be inscribed in the triangle.

The largest side that can be inscribed in the triangle is the hypotenuse.
Let us name the triangle ABC.
Since it is a right angle, we can use the Pythagoras theorem.
AB^2 + BC^2=AC^2
16^2 + 8^2 =AC^2
320=AC^2
AC = 17.8 (approx)
