Farmers grow legumes afer non leguminous plants due this reason:
Leguminous plants support nitrogen fixing bacteria in their root nodules which fix atmospheric nitrogen and add to the fertility of soil by increasing nitrogen content that was used extensively by the previos non leguminous crop.
