Leguminous plants have nodules in their roots which are bacteria and which converts atmospheric nitrogen into soluble nitrogen and hence the plants absorb that through water.

Leguminous plants are in symbiotic association with rhizobium bacteria. This bacteria help in nitrogen fixation hence leguminous plants don't require nitrogen fertilizer.
