QUESTION : Length and breadth of a rectangle is in the ratio of 8 :3. if the total area of rectangle is 96sq cms, then what is the length of the rectangle.

GIVEN :

1.Ratio of length and breadth = 8:3

2.Area of rectangle 96 cm²

TO FIND : Length of rectangle

SOLUTION :

Length = 16cm

Breadth = 6cm

EXPLANATION :

=>Let the ratio be x

then, Length = 8x

Breadth = 3x

Area of rectangle = Length × Breadth

According to the question,

=>8x × 3x = 96

=>24x² = 96

=>x² = 4

=>x = +- 2

(we will take positive value as length can not be negative)

Length = 8x =8 × 2 = 16 cm

Breadth = 3x = 3 × 2 = 6 cm

To check: if we multiply the values to length and breadth, it must be equal to 96 cm²

Multiplying both = 16 × 6 = 96cm²

So, the answer is right .

Answer :

  • Length of rectangle is 16cm
  • Breadth of rectangle is 6cm

Given :

  • Length and breadth of a rectangle is in the ratio of 8:3
  • Area of rectangle is 96 sq.cm

To find :

  • Length of the rectangle

Solution :

Given,

Length and breadth of a rectangle is in the ratio 8:3 then

  • Let the length be 8x
  • Let the breadth be 3x

And also Given ,area of rectangle is 96 sq .cm

As we know that,

  • Area of rectangle = l × b

Where , l is length and b is breadth

》8x × 3x = 96

》24x² = 96

》x² = 96 - 24

》x² = 4

》x = + 2

we have to take positive value as a length so it can't be negative

Now we have to find the length and breadth

  • Length = 8x = 8(2) = 16cm
  • Breadth = 3x = 3(2) = 6cm

Hence, Length and breadth is 16cm and 6cm

Verification :

As we know that,

  • Area of rectangle = length × breadth

》16 × 6

》96cm²
