ok
So If there is unknown ratio given...we assume it as x. For example here
Ratio of Length and width of a field is 5:3
So we assume that,
Length of field = 5x
Width of Field = 3x
Now further given, width of field is 42 m
and we have to find area
So, we can say 3x=42 and x=14
Now Put x=14 in Length(5x)
So Length is 14×5 = 70
Now we have width= 42 and Length= 70
Area = length × width
Area = 70 × 42
Area = 2940 m square
I hope you understood
