Given,

The length and width of a field are in the ratio 5 : 3. The width of the field is 42 m

To find,

The length of the field.

Solution,

Let the length of the field be 5x and the breadth of the field is 3x.

Width is given to us i.e. 42 meters.

⇒   3x =42

+3 which is on the Left-Hand Side of the equation in the numerator would shift to the Right-Hand Side of the equation in the denominator.

⇒   x = 42/3

⇒   x = 14.

Therefore, the length of the field is 5x ⇒  5(14) = 70 m, whereas the breadth of the field is 3x ⇒  3(14) = 42 m.

The breadth of the field  = 42 meters.
