let the breadth be x m
then the length be (x+4) m
perimeter = 2(length + breadth)
=> 84= 2(x+x+4)
=>84= 2(2x+4)
=>84= 4x+4
=> 84-4= 4x
=>80= 4x
=>80/4= x
=> x= 20
length= 24 m
breadth= 20m

\bf{\underline{Question:-}}

length of a rectangle exceeds its breadth 4 metres if the perimeter of a rectangle is 84 metres find its length and breadth.

\bf{\underline{Solution:-}}

Let

  • the breadth be x metre

  • then the length be (x+4) m

We know that,

perimeter = 2(length + breadth)

→ 84= 2(x+x+4)

→ 84= 2(2x+4)

→ 84= 4x+4

→ 84-4= 4x

→ 80= 4x

→ 80/4= x

→ x= 20

\bf{\underline{Hence:-}}

  • length= 24 m
  • breadth= 20m
