Answer:

c. 10m

Let x metre be the breadth of rectangle.

Therefore, length = x + 6 m

Area of the rectangle = 40 sq m

or, length× breadth = 40

or, (x+6) × x = 40

or, x^2 + 6x = 40

or, x^2 + 6x - 40 = 0

or, x^2 + 10x - 4x - 40 = 0

or, x(x+10) - 4(x+10) = 0

or, (x+10) (x-4) = 0

either,

x+10=0 or, x- 4 = 0

therefore , x= -10 or +4

since, breadth cannot be negative,

therefore, x = 4

Length = x+6

= 4+6

= 10
