Let the base be “x”.
Therefore, length of equal sides=(3/2)x=3x/2
Perimeter (Sum of sides) = Base + Length of two equal sides
or, 40 = x + 3x/2 + 3x/2
or, 40 = (3x + 3x + 2x)/2
or, 80 = 8x
or, x = 8
Hence, base of the triangle= 80
Length of equal sides = 3x/2 = 12
