Let the length be x cm

Breadth=x+4

Perimeter of rectangle = 32 cm

2 ( l+ b )=32

x+x+4 =16

2x = 12

× = 6 cm

Length is 6 cm

Given:

Length of rectangle = 4 cm more than breadth

Perimeter of rectangle = 32 cm

To find:

Breadth of rectangle =?

Length of rectangle =?

Solution:

The perimeter of a rectangle is the sum total of all of its four sides which is two lengths and two breadths.

It can be found from the following steps:

=> Let the breadth of the rectangle be Y cm.

=> Now it is given that length is 4 cm more than breadth.

∴ Length of rectangle = Breadth + 4cm

Length of rectangle = (Y + 4) cm

=> Now substituting both values in the formula for finding perimeter of rectangle:

Perimeter of rectangle = 2 (length + breadth)

32 cm = 2 ({Y + 4} cm + Y cm)

32 cm = 2 (2Y + 4)

32 cm = 4Y + 8

32 cm - 8 = 4Y

24 cm = 4Y

Y = \frac{24}{4}

Y = 6 cm

∴Breadth of rectangle = Y = 6 cm

∴Length of rectangle = Y + 4 = 6 + 4 = 10 cm

Hence, breadth of rectangle is 6 cm and the length is 10 cm.
