let the breadth be x metres
so the length = (2x-8)metres.
perimeter of a rectangle=2(l+b)
                                  56=2(2x-8+x)
                                  56=2(3x-8)
                              56÷2=3x-8
                                  28=3x-8
                              28+8=3x
                                  36=3x
                              36÷3=x
                     12 metres =x

∴length of the rectangle= 2x-8= 2(12)-8= 24-8=16 metres
breadth= x= 12 metres.

hope it helps you! :)
