Length of the pole which is 72 m high casts a shadow of 80 m at a particular time on a day. Find the length of the electric pole, which casts a shadow of 10 m under conditions. ​

SOLUTION:-

  • Let the required height of the pole be x metre.

Clearly,less the length of shadow less is the height of the pole.

SO, IT IS A CASE OF DIRECT VARIATION.

Now,

Ratio of length of shadow = Ratio of corresponding height of pole.

SO, 80:10 = 72:x

80×x = 72×10

x = 10×72/80

x = 9

THUS, THE HEIGHT OF POLE IS 9 METRE
