Adonijah was the fourth son of King David. His mother was Haggith as recorded in the book of 2 Samuel 3:4. Adonijah was born at Hebron during the long conflict between David and the House of Saul.

The Bible says, “His father had never tried to stop him from doing what he wanted to. His father had never asked him, ‘Why are you acting the way you do?’” () So when Adonijah knew that his father was old and weak, he announced, “I’m going to be king.”
