Let a, b, c be the three rational numbers where a = 2/3, b = 4/5 and c
= −5/6 , Verify:
(i) a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c (Associative property of addition)
(ii) a × (b × c) – (a × b) × c (Associative property of multiplication)

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

given ,    a= 2/3 ,  b= 4+5 , c= -5/6

( I )   a + (b +c )   = (a+ b) + c

      2/3 + {  4/5 + ( -5/6)}   = ( 2/3 + 4/5 )  +  (-5/6)

     2/3   {   24 - 25 /30}    = (  10 + 12/ 15 )  -5/6

 2/3 - 1/30    =     22/15 - 5/6

20 -1/ 30 =      44  - 25 / 30

19/30  =       19/30        verified ..

(ii)      a * (b* c)   =  (a *b) *c

        2/3  * { 4/5 * (-5/6)  }     =      ( 2/3 * 4/5)  *  -5/6

        2/3  *  (-2/3)   =      (  8 /15 )  * - 5/6

    -4/9   =        8/15  *   -5/6

    - 4/9 =  -4/9        verified ..
