Given:-

□ ABCD is a rectangle

AB = (x + y), BC = 2, CD = 6

and AD = (x - y)

To find:-

value of x .

Solution:-

□ ABCD is a rectangle.

•°• opposite sides are congruent.

•°• AB = CD

=> x + y = 6 .....(1)

And

AD = BC

=> x - y = 2 .....(2)

Now, the eq 1 and w can be solved by eliminating method.

Adding equation 1 and 2

x + y = 6

- ( x - y = 2) •°• y = 4/2 = 2.

2y = 4

Substituting y = 2 in eq 1

•°• x + 2 = 6

x = 6 - 2 = 4

x = 4

The value for x is 4.

more properties of rectangle:-

Diagonals of a rectangle are congruent. opposite side are congruent. opposite angles are congruent. all interior angles are 90°. Rectangle is also parallelogram as opposite sides are parallel.
