Given :  The plan EF is fixed parallel to base AB.

GE: EA = 1:3 AB = 5 feet

To Find : length of plank EF

Solution:

in Δ GEF  & Δ GAB

∠G = ∠G   ( common)

∠GEF  = ∠GAB    ( corresponding angles)

∠GFE  = ∠GBA    ( corresponding angles)

=> Δ GEF ≈  Δ GAB

GE/GA  =  EF/AB

GE: EA = 1:3

=>  GE / GA  =  1/4

EF/AB = 1/4

=> EF = AB/4

=> EF = 5/4  feet

length of plank EF = 1.25 feet

= 1 feet 3 inches
