The element has a valency of 3 and can be Aluminium, Boron, gallium, etc.

  • IP stands for ionization potential, which is the energy required for an atom to release the valence electron upto infinity.

  • Now, the successive IPs are 250 eV, 100 eV, 250 eV and 2051 eV.

  • So, after releasing three successive electrons, the atom achieved octet state configuration which is actually a noble gas configuration. Hence, the 4th IP became so high as compared to the IP1 , IP2, IP3 because the ion doesnt want to leave the stable state.

  • So, valency of the element is 3.

  • So, the element can be anything belonging to group 13 of the MODERN PERIODIC TABLE (i.e. boron, aluminium, gallium, indium, etc.)
