Simple harmony motion is an oscillatory motion under a retarding ( negative) force proportional to the amount of displacement from an equilibrium ( mean ) position.

In simple harmonic motion displacement is always opposite to the restoring force .

E.g = Motion of hand of clock , motion of spring etc.

Two basic criteria for Simple harmonic motion =

(1)= There must be an elastic restoring force acting on the system .

(2)= The acceleration of the system should be directly proportional to it's displacement and is directed towards the mean position.
