Kraken and seven other pirates agreed to share a pile of gold pieces equally. Right before they divided up the gold, two more pirates showed up and demanded to be included, so the gold ended up getting divided among ten pirates instead. Kraken received 40 fewer pieces of gold than he would have if the two extra pirates hadn't arrived. How many pieces of gold did Kraken receive?

Let the total amount of gold to be x.

Earlier, there were 8 pirates.

Therefore, each of them would have received $\frac{x}{8}$ amount of gold.

Later 2 more pirates arrived.

So, pirates increased to 10.

Hence, each received $\frac{x}{10}$ amount of gold.

If two pirates hadn't arrived he would have got 40 pieces of gold more.

According to question:-

$\frac{x}{10}$ + 40 = $\frac{x}{8}$

L.C.M. on left hand side:-

$\frac{x+400}{10}$ = $\frac{x}{8}$

Cross Multiplication:-

8x + 3200 = 10x

Transposing:-

2x = 3200

x = $\frac{3200}{2}$

x = 1600

So, at last Kraken received $\frac{x}{10}$ = $\frac{1600}{10}$ = 160 pieces of gold !

it means kraken + 7 = 8 ( to be divided in )

let the pile of gold is = X ...
so according to first condition everyone can get = X/8 pieces of gold

now after coming 2 more pirates they will be 8+2= 10

so gold share is now = X/ 10

now after dividing with 2 more pirates kraken getting 40 pieces less

X/10

so According to statement

X/10 = X/8-40 ( taking LCM on RHS)

X/10 = X - 320/8 ( cross multiply )

8X =10x - 3200( taking X on one side )

8x-10x = -3200

-2x = -3200 ( cancelling - both side )

X= 3200/2 = 1600 ( answer )

if the 2 more pirates hadn't had came kraken could get 1600 pieces of gold
