Let O, P and Z represent the numbers 0, 3 and –5 respectively on the number line.

Points Q, R and S are between O and P such that OQ = QR = RS = SP. What are the

rational numbers represented by the points Q, R and S. Next choose a point T between Z

and O so that ZT = TO. Which rational number does T represent?

Answer:

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

From given information we get :

OQ + QR + RS + SP = 3 , Substitute value from given condition " OQ = QR = RS = SP " and get :

OQ + OQ + OQ + OQ = 3 ,

4 OQ = 3 ,

OQ = 34 , So we represent 34 at ' Q ' .

From given condition we get : OQ = QR = RS = SP = 34

And

OR = OQ + QR = 34 + 34 = 64 = 32, So we represent 32 at ' R ' .

And

OS = OQ + QR + RS = 34 + 34 + 34= 94 , So we represent 94 at ' S ' .

And as given : choose a point T between Z and O so that ZT = TO , So

OT + ZT = OZ ,

OT + OT = - 5 ,

2 OT = - 5 ,

OT = − 52, So we represent − 52 at ' T ' .

And we show these rational numbers , As :
