SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

Let S = { 1,2,3} and P = {(1,1),(1,2),(1,3),(3,1)} is p reflective

If not, state the reason and write the minimum set of ordered pairs to be included to P so as to make it reflexive

EVALUATION

Here the given set is

S = { 1,2,3}

P = {(1,1),(1,2),(1,3),(3,1)}

We know that for an given set S a relation P is said to be reflexive if (x, x) ∈ P for every x ∈ S

Since 2 ∈ S , 3 ∈ S

But (2,2) ∉ P , (3,3) ∉ P

So P is not reflexive

In order to P to be reflexive (2,2) & (3,3) must be elements of P

Hence the minimum set of ordered pairs to be included to pP so as to make it reflexive is

{ (2,2) , (3,3) }
