Answer:

This low lying area , 64 kms. away from Ahmadabad is situated in between the central plains of Gujarat and eastern Saurashtra . It is said that in the past it had links with little Rann in the north and the Gulf of Khambat in it's southrn part . However these two sea links do not exist nowadays .The entire 120 sq. km. area of the lake is about 4' deep .One can see the bottom of the lake through the transparent green water . There are islets in various parts of the water body .The lake is filled with long grass like vegetation which increases it's beauty quite a lot .During winter months migratory birds come here from Russia and central European countries flying as long as 3500 kms. and more . From November usually they turn up . And stay there till February . It is said about 210 species of birds are usually there during this period . Out of which 140 species are water birds and 70 species are migratory . But one can observe 30 of them easily . The cormorants ,rosy pelicans ,flamingos , white storks , brahmani hans ( duck ) , geese and herons are seen .They eat fish , insects , and aquatic plants .The beautiful vast lake is filled with tranquillity .

You have to take vehicles to reach there from Ahmadabad .It is advised to arrive there at dawn if you want to observe all those birds . As we reached there by the sun rise , were fortunate enough to get the views of all these birds . At the nearby islet there are food stalls run by local people . You can have omelette and other local cuisine with tea or coffee as breakfast .

The vehicles which take the tourists there, are parked out of the gate of the lake which is about 1 km away from there.

Everything is fine , except the management . After paying a fat sum as entry fees at the Govt. counter , the locals take you to the lake in their own vehicle as no tourist vehicle is allowed inside . Then you will have to bargain a lot for the boat riding. Usually that ends with an amicable settlement . One thing to notice here , you must make a contract with them for going to the far off island which is not seen from the starting point . If that is done then only you can see the pelicans , flamingos and other migratory birds . And for sure that will be prize watching which we witnessed . The boat trip usually ends at about 10 am , as after that ,only a few local birds are seen on the lake . Indeed , after all, it's a very enjoying trip and is not a common one .

  • This low-lying region is 64 kilometres from Ahmadabad and is located between the Gujarati central plains and the eastern Saurashtra. It is reported that in the past, it had connections with the Gulf of Khambat in its southern region and Little Rann in the north. However, these two maritime connections are no longer in use. The lake is approximately 4' deep over its 120 sq. km. size. The lake's pure green water allows one to see the bottom of the body of water. There are islets scattered around the body of water. The lake is surrounded by vegetation that resembles long grass, which greatly enhances its beauty.
  • Winter months see migratory birds arrive from Russia and central European nations after journeys of up to 3500 kilometres. They often start showing up in November. and remain there into February. 210 different species of birds are reportedly typically present around this time. 70 species are migratory, while 140 species are waterbirds. However, 30 of these are simple to observe. There are herons, cormorants, rosy pelicans, flamingos, white storks, brahmani hans (ducks), and flamingos. They consume aquatic plants, fish, and insects.
  • From Ahmadabad, you must travel there by vehicle. If you want to see all of those birds, it is recommended that you get there early dawn. We were fortunate to see all of these birds because we arrived there before the sun rose. There are food stands manned by locals on the adjoining islet. Breakfast options include omelettes and other regional dishes served with tea or coffee.
  • Everything is good, save from management. No tourist vehicles are permitted within, therefore after paying hefty admission fees at the government desk, the locals drive you to the lake in their own car. The boat ride will therefore require extensive haggling. Usually, an agreeable resolution results from that.
