Pakistan debuted in international cricket in 1952 against India in which the latter won. In the same series, Pakistan recorded their first Test win also. They have also won the 1998–99 Asian Test Championship.

Pakistan played their first ODI match against New Zealand in February 1973 at the Lancaster Park, Christchurch.

Their first victory in ODI was against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, in August 1974.

Pakistan has played 879 ODI matches. They were victorious in 464 matches. They also won the 1992 Cricket World Cup, the 2000 and 2012 Asia Cups, and the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.

Pakistan registered their first win in an ODI against England on 31st August 1974. This match was played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. It was Pakistan's first one day international match win against any team. England batted first and scored 244 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 50 overs. Pakistan scored 246 runs for the loss of 3 wickets with 43 ball remaining to register their first win in an ODI. David Llyod made 116 runs not out from England side and Mazid Khan made 109 from Pakistan side. It was 55 over match but reduced to 50 overs.
