Rewrite the following story using the past tense of the verbs given in brackets.
Once upon a time, there (live) a man and his wife in a village. They (be) blessed with a goose
which (lay) a golden egg every day. They (be) very lucky to have such a goose at home. Every
day the man (go) to the market to sell the egg. The money they (receive) by selling the egg
(help) them to buy what they (need). But soon they (begin) to think that they (be) not getting
rich fast enough. They (imagine) that the bird (be) made of gold inside. They (decide) to kill it
in order to get the entire store of gold (keep) inside the goose's stomach at once. One day they
(cut) it open to get what they (want). But alas! They (discover) to their dismay that it (be) an
ordinary goose just like any other of its kind. They (become) very disappointed. They neither
(get) rich as they had hoped, nor (enjoy) the daily share of their wealth any longer.​
