Let's read and enjoy 1. Do you know anyone who loves to wander from place to place? We meet one such person in this poem. Why does this wanderer mention two directions, East and West? 2. A tramp is a person who goes from place to place and does no regular work. and become tramps. Do you think this is the kind of wander-thirst that the speaker has? Some people are so full of this love of wandering that they give up everything 3. To what does the speaker liken the wander-thirst that works in him? Who (or what) does it tell him to bid goodbye to? 4. Normally, when we decide to travel we know exactly where we are going. Is this true of the speaker too? Is he going towards a particular place? Why/Why not? 5. When we travel long distances we normally go with our friends or relatives. What about the speaker? Does he carry a map or a guidebook, or does he depend on some other source of information? 6. In line 10, the speaker refers to old ships returning and young ships sailing away. Do you think ships means 'travellers' here? Does it then mean that the poet is actually referring to weary old travellers returning home and fresh young men/women beginning their voyage? 7. Which words in line 11 show that the speaker is determined to set out on a voyage? Who does he 'blame' for his decision? 8. The poem is about people who are looking for new places to explore and new faces to meet. Do you like such pennle?
