if we suppose x = 2 and y =2root2

therefore

the sum x+y = 2+ 2 root 2 and this no. is irrational

hence

sum of irrational and rational is always irrational ....

I Hope this will help you

let  \: x \:  =  \: 2 \: and \: y =  \sqrt{2}  \\  2 +  \sqrt{2 }  = 2 +  \sqrt{2} which \: is \: a \\ rational \: no
