yes it must be irrational
ex. 2(rational)×√3(irrational)= 2√3 which is irrational

yes, xy should always be irrational no.
because when rational no.is multiplied with rational no it always gives rational no.
and when rational no. multiplied with irrational no it gives irrational no.
