enior citizens are finding that they have to work well past what used to be the normal age of retirement due to the high cost of living and health insurance cost. Retiring at the age of 65 is becoming a pipe dream to the average senior, but finding and getting employment is a real nightmare.

This past August, I was forced to retire from my job of over 27 years. Since that time, I have been looking for new employment in my field of Auto/Truck parts sales. I have a total of over 47 years experience in this field., but my search for new employment has been an ongoing uphill battle.

Time and time again, I have been asked by a prospective employer, to come in for a interview, only to get passed over for the position because I am in my 70’s. The prospective employers are impressed with my years of experience, but continually go with a younger person than myself.

Please note. Senior citizens need to work just as much as the younger generation does. Because most of us do not have small children and family related issues, we are more reliable and dependable, and we take a lot more pride in our employment. It is not just a paycheck. It is our life and our livelihood . With the cost of living going through the roof, more and more seniors are finding that they have to work well into theirs late 70’s and some into their 80’s.

Hire the senior citizen! You will get an employee that comes with years of experience, plus, someone that you can count on to be there when they are supposed to be there. I need to work, I want to work, I have to work and I am not planning on retiring permanently for quite some time.
