As I look out my window and see the smoke in the air, I am reminded that the impacts of warming temperatures and extreme weather are here today, not somewhere off in the future. The fires started in June this year and continue to rage. We have had multiple days with triple-digit temperatures, and we can only expect more.

California has some strong climate policies but must do more. Solutions such as moving rapidly to 100 percent clean, carbon-free energy for our state are within our grasp. State Senate Bill 100 would put us on that path. The bill has strong public support but must pass in the state Assembly during August.

SB 100 would be a landmark bill that protects California’s environment and maintains our leadership in the fight against the climate crisis. Renewable energy is reliable, affordable, creates jobs and is doable as the technology is already here.

Thank you for your consideration and helping to make the Earth a better place for our children and grandchildren!
