The Editor in Chief,
The Times of India.
Subject: Danger of reckless driving.
Sir,
It is indeed sad to see vehicle owners or their drivers driving so recklessly even in crowded areas.
There are instances of mechanical failure leading to accidents but such cases are not many. The cause of most accidents is rash driving. Rash and reckless results in major accidents leading to serious injuries or lost of precious lives. Reckless driving endangers the lives of those driving as well as those who are walking.
Traffic rules and speed limits must be followed for our own safety and the safety of other people. Every year we observe Road Safety Week. But it is disappointing that some people cannot even follow simple traffic rules and risk their lives and the lives of others. Roads are for all people but illogical people probably think they own the road and it is their property.
I believe that reckless driving should not be treated as a minor offense. More severe penalties must be imposed on reckless drivers than other traffic offenders.
Yours sincerely,
ARUN KUMAR
